Since language is one of the most important requirements for understanding any culture, we feel it is important for you to have a list of the terms you can use as you develop into a professional manager and build a problem-solving culture. Get the Definitions in a PDF format
Attitude: A state of mind—an emotional and intellectual inclination—and a predisposition to actions based on what you tell yourself.
Communication: Refers to anything, verbal or nonverbal, that imparts information, thoughts or feelings. It is a vehicle that enables you and your employees to connect with each other and to learn about your respective worlds.
Defensive Culture: An environment in which people are more concerned with their image than they are with solving problems.
Desires: Are unexpected bonuses or other pleasant surprises. These are sometimes called "It sure would be nice if____."
Expectations: Refers to all entitlements or treatments you consider essential for performing your job.
Fertile Workplace Culture: An environment that encourages individuals to grow, learn and be as good as they can at their job and as people.
Harassment: A selfish behavior by a person who places more value on his or her desires and interests than on another’s right to privacy. Also, it is a process or action by which one party victimizes his/her target by repeatedly violating their privacy and invading their space. Even when they are asked or told not to do whatever they are doing, harassers disregard such requests.
Managing: The ongoing process of developing mutually rewarding relationships with your employees.
Mensch: A respectful and genuine person who is sensitive and appropriately responsive to others’ feelings. By being considerate, righteous and positive in all dealings with people, a mensch builds healthy communication bridges. A mensch could be either male or female and could be of any color, race, or nationality.
